A remake in its true sense. Much awaited and talked
about endeavor of The Dharma Productions.
Agneepath being of the action genre and full of violence
is a very unlikely Dharma movie at the same time the
screenplay, cinematography and other technicalities are
very much its style.
The story begins in a maharashtrian village -mandwaa
with a village school teacher (master Dinanath Chauhan )
whose growing popularity becomes a matter of concern for
the village head. He plans on calling his son
Kancha(sanjay dutt) to take care of this.Kancha tries to
talk the villagers into leasing their properties to him
so that he can set up a salt factory but his actual
intension is revealed of trying to set up a drug mafia
there.

With the help of his crooked mind and schemes to achive
his ultimate goal of taking revenge of his father’s
death by killing Kancha, he is able to kill Rauf Lala’s
son and soon take Rauf Lala down too.
And then the story is about how he is able to reach
Kancha and if and how he is able to take his revenge.
The movie is full of power packed performances . Its
full of heart rending peices by Hritik Roshan, Sanjay
Dutt, Rishi Kapoor and also Priyanka Chopra.
Hritik as always is OUTSTANDING! For even a second you
cannot belive that he is NOT Vijay Dinanath Chauhan the
intensity in his eyes and brooding persona is a perfect
characterization of Hritik’s VDC .
Sanjay Dutt is equally matched adversary who is a devil
incarnate. Every thing about him in the movie- his look
(a much talked about aspect)dialogues, body language
etc. is pure “CRUEL-EVIL VILLAIN STYLE.” Ironically he
will terrify you and yet you would want to see him on
screen.
Rishi Kapoor being the brilliant actor that he is, will
shock you in his negative role portrayal of Rauf Lala.
He acts with ease and excellence at the same time and he
too has some thing in is eyes which is so brilliant. An
unlikely character to be played by an extra ordinary
actor of his caliber.

The Master tries to stop the
injustice he foresees if the villagers give into Kancha’s
scheme. Then Kancha stages a miss happening and it seems
like that the master is the culprit, Kancha along with the
villagers hang the master leaving his 12 year old son
vijay and pregnant wife helpless.
Vijay and his mother, shift to Mumbai hoping for new life,
in a chawl of Mumbai his mother delivers a daughter
Shiksha. But fate follows them and Vijay sees Kancha and
follows him to find that he has other enemy too in Rauf
Lala (Rishi Kapoor). He decides to join forces with him as
he remembers his dad’s saying “shakti ka paas hona zaruri
hai par sawal shakti ke istemaal ka hai”. His mother
afraid of what has become of her son, abandons him as she
doesn’t want this to reflect on her daughter too. Slowly
and gradually over the period of 15 years he becomes an
important part of Rauf Lala’s empire, and with Vijay’s
help he has is able to become a Drug Lord of the city and
continues his business of female trafficking .he has a
love angle with Kaali (Priyanka Chopra) who loves him
unconditionally at the same time is able to understand him
and be supportive of him in all his decisions including
the one where he says he does not want to get married.
Vijay looks up to a police officer Gaitonde (Om Puri) as
he reminds him of his father and was of great help to him
when he had just come to the city with his mother,
Gaitonde too thinks of him as a son being aware of the
wrong doings he is a part of.

Priyanka Chopra is beautiful as Kaali- peppy, young, full
of life, Vijay’s strength, bubbly, at the same time very
understanding and mature – wished to have seen more of
this pretty actress.
“Technicalities are the basic unit” , so coming to them,
camera angels and the camera work ( cinematography,
screenplay, etc.) is done beautifully with all the vibrant
colors. One thing that strikes is that being such a heavy
mobvie full of violence it is actually a very dark movie
and could have been so on screen, but yet the makers have
made it very comfortable which makes it very easy to sit
through the entire movie. Although it is nearly 3 hours
long it engages you at all points and does not let you
leave your seat. Karan Malhotra does an impeccable job as
the director of the film especially considering the fact
that this is his first! Only thing being negative is that
the transition from an emotionally loaded scene to the
next seems very drastic.
Music has managed to create its own hype and is also being
appreciated – of course Chikni Chameli has already made it
to the top of the charts and other songs from the album
too are in line.
Agneepath lives up to its hype , name and even the
expectations, it is definitely your entertainer of the
week and the weekend and so it deserves a 4 star rating!
