The scene is set in Goa. Daddy Cool Douglas Lazarus
has kicked the bucket. Daddy Cool is a remake of the
2007 British comedy Death at a Funeral
What is expected at the funeral in a Catholic family’s
house? It ought to have depressed atmosphere and gloomy
characters around. It is just the opposite. There are no
tears and sad speeches.
And then the coffin makers deliver the wrong body.
Daddy Cool is the story
about what is seen when the daddy cool dies. His good
Son Steven Lazarus (Suniel Shetty), who is an aspiring
writer and wants to give his father a decent funeral.
Steven has called his
younger brother Brian (Ashish Chowdhury). Brian has
taken the first available flight from Mumbai to Goa. A
handsome guy, unlike his elder brother, Brian is a
successful and much admired writer.
Steven’s cousin Maria (Tulip
Joshi) wants her prospective groom Michael (Aftab
Shivdasani) to meet her father (Naseer Abdullah).
Maria’s junkie brother Harry (Chunky Pandey) is (over)
smart enough to store his drugs in some other bottles
with different labels (like the Relaxo bottle). But the
nervous groom Michael scheduled to see his future father
in law consumes the contents of the bottle thinking it
would ‘relax’ him.
Michael has competition from Jim (Vrajesh Hirjee), a
roadside Romeo sort of a guy who isn’t bother whether
it’s an happy occasion or otherwise. Jim just wants to
impress Maria.

But the young bro does not want to share responsibility
for his mother. He gives the idea that he is barely
surviving in the city of dreams (though the right picture
is something else).
The other character is that of
an estate agent Pinto (Vijay Patkar) who tries to close a
house deal for Steven’s wife Nancy (Aarti Chabria). Nancy
is uncomfortable in the house and does not bother about
the present circumstances. She is not getting along with
Steven's mother Mrs. Lazarus (Suhasini Mulay) and intends
to get away from her.

Its chaos all around. To add
to it, there is Carlos (Javed Jaffrey) who is caught red
handed by his suspicious wife Jenny (Kim Sharma) with a
shapely girl Ayesha. An aspiring hot model Ayesha (Sophie
Choudhary) is promised a break in an advert film. She is
directed to bestow her favours on a man in black suit but
now she herself is unsure about the identity of the man in
a room full of black suited men.
Another character worth a mention is the blackmailer
Andrew played by Rajpal Yadav. This blackmailer has
evidence which would expose the true image of – the
deceased Douglas Lazarus – Daddy Cool.
Shot mainly indoors and in some selected locations in Goa,
Daddy Cool is a fun film.
