Laughter behind darkness

Dekh Re Dekh, movie review

This dark comedy film was originally titled Dekh Bhai Dekh, which had to be changed to Dekh Re Dekh as theluc producers of the hit TV serial Dekh Bhai Dekh still own the title. The lead actors Siddharth Koirala and Gracy Singh openly expressed discontent about it but the producers had to abide by the name copyright regulations. Dekh Re Dekh movie review…

Dekh Re Dekh is the story of four different people from a small town in western Uttar Pradesh, India. These four different characters share their respective ambitions and for solving their personal problems, zero down to only one solution…. A CRIME…..the only way out…

Babli (Gracy Singh) is a sweet, innocent, but very blunt girl. She is divorced as her marriage in a rich family has turned into a nightmare and has to start a new life.

Her friend Shyam (Siddharth Koirala) needs money to bribe a minister for a government job. He is in dire need of money, and gets involved with his childhood friend Babli’s plan.

At this juncture one more character joins them, Yadav a struggling politician in need of money for his party fund to get ticket for election…

The three get together and plan a robbery. However, all the three innocent characters have no clue how to commit a robbery, and so they involve a professional thief, Charan in the mission. Thus enters Charan, and starts with him a storm of humor and entertainment.

The foursome, then get into the funniest of situations in their quest to make some quick money.

While on their way to Delhi, the gang stays overnight in a mansion, where Babli glimpses a hoard of jewels in the owner’s possession. They murder her and plan to escape with the jewels, but greed spoils their plans.

The constant banter of the four incompetent thieves and each of their attempts at double-crossing each other have turned out well.

Gracy Singh is for the first time playing a grey shaded character in this film where the suspense is left intact right till the end. Gracy really rocks, while Siddarth is just average in Rahat Kazmi’s debut directorial attempt. Vijay Raaz and Raghuveer Yadav deliver with perfect sense of timing

Dekh Re Dekh is a crime comedy set up in a natural village setup, though slightly slow paced, which could have been a wee bit more faster.
