Deshdrohi – movie review

A north Indian migrant to Mumbai is exploited by Politicians

Deshdrohi, movie review

The film produced by Bhojpuri filmmaker Kamal Khan, who also plays the lead in Deshdrohi, is about a north Indian migrant’s struggle in Mumbai.

Desh Drohi is about politics, corruption & a common man. Raja, a small-town migrant comes to Mumbai in search of a decent job and gets entangled in the local – North Indians issue, eventually he gets involved in a fight with anti-social elements and succumbs to death. He goes through a hell when he is abused, beaten up, and even politically manipulated.

Raja has left his father and his love – Neha back in village. In Mumbai, he meets Shekhar who works as a watchman in the tinsel town. He also comes across the beautiful girl Sonia who works for Baba Kadam, a drug dealer.

In one incident Raja happens to save Sonia from the anti- group of Baba Kadam and both. He falls in love with her.

Finding the survival in Mumbai tough, especially for the North Indians, he meets a north Indian politician for help, who ultimately uses this simpleton for his political benefits. Mumbai’s drug mafia is shown as helped by politicians whereas the media wants to reveal the corruption prevalent in the city.

The opposition drug dealer gives the contract of killing Raja and Sonia to a police inspector who in the process himself gets killed. The police force now hunts for Raja and Sonia who try to escape from gangsters as well as the Mumbai police.

They try to get help from a politician who incidentally cheats them and their last hope – Sonia’s boss Baba Kadam also double cross them. Raja now makes his mind to kill all involved in the case. He is helped by inspector Rohit Raghav to kill politician Srivastva.

The story fails to entertain though it may pass on a message to the audience about the north and Maharashtra divide, and its ill effects on the people.
