Dhoondte Reh Jaoge – movie review

A satire on Bollywood and life in Mumbai

Dhoondte Reh Jaoge, movie review

‘The concept is simple, brilliant, failsafe, unique and guaranteed to work,’ says Anand Pawar (Kunal Kemmu) an honest Charted Accountant but looser in life, to Raj Chopra (Paresh Rawal), a veteran film Producer with no money, heavily in debt as all his previous films have been flops in the film Dhoondte Reh Jaoge.

Anand and Raj team up and hatch a plan to raise money to produce a feature film and then actually make it for a pittance. They plot to make it so badly that audiences will reject it on the first day of its release, which would give them a foolproof chance to decamp with the remaining invested funds.

All they need to do is raise 100 Crore from various financers and produce the film in 5 Crore. They would then make a film that will never work, a film that will be hooted out on the first day itself and run away with 95 Crore.

They want to become instant millionaires in the shortest time possible. Thats what Dhoondte Reh Jaoge is all about….

An infallible plan. To make a FLOPBUSTER they rope in Super star Aryan Kapoor (Sonu Sood) as a the lead in the film, they also rope in Parvez Asharraf (Johny Lever) as a writer, who is Pro Pakistan and many other weird and wacky actors, director, music directors for the film.

Anand Pawar becomes so greedy that he decides to cheat on his own girl friend Neha Chattopadhayay ( Soha Ali Khan) who is a small time theatre actress. Anand cast her as a main heroine in the film so her acting ka keeda will be over in one film.

The idea is to raise a lot of money for the project and then make the movie on a shoe string budget, thereby saving on money. By ensuring that the film is a flop, the duo gets to keep huge amount they have raised for the venture.

The proposed film which is scripted by Johnny Lever is a hash of Sholay, Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, Gadar and Lagaan put together. This film turns out to be a huge hit and Anand and Raj are now faced with the prospect of sharing the profits with the financers.

There are some funny sequences and if you just drop your guard a bit then this film turns out to be very entertaining, though it has some unwanted songs, its okay.

Kunal Khemu as the honest accountant is growing as an actor, Soha Ali Khan has no meaningful part to play, while it is Paresh Rawal as the shifty producer and Johnny Lever who steal the show. Sonu Sood is passable and plays the SRK-Hrithik-Amitabh type of superstar. The glamour girls Hrishita Bhatt & Deepal Shaw have very little time on the screen..

What a pleasant surprise, that Dhoondte Reh Jaoge is a good comedy in recent times and those viewers accustomed to the film making style of Bollywood will like this one. A mindless caper, manages to amuse.
