A supernatural-horror-thriller

Help, movie review

HELP is a supernatural horror Bollywood thriller which is based upon the story of a wicked spirit that refuses to leave the human world and exists with a vengeance for past crimes committed against it. Help movie review…

This horror thriller film, which marks the debut of Rajeev Virani as a director, starts impressively, but then on it drags after some time and ultimately falls short of momentum and precision.

In the film, Vic (Bobby Deol) is a successful film maker in Bollywood, as director of horror flicks. Pia (Mugdha Godse) is his beautiful wife. The couple is going through a bad patch in their married life and in the midst of these troubled times they have to suddenly rush to Mauritius to take care of Pia’s ailing father.

Absolutely unaware of the terror awaiting them…

As they go back to Pia’s old family home in Mauritius she is confronted by her distant past which she has not had to face as she had left Mauritius when she was just a 5 year old. They realize that there’s something sinister in this house. A dark, disturbing past that remains hidden and silent since years.

When Pia finds out that she is pregnant this darkly vicious spirit possesses her. It is the spirit of her twin sister, who died at the age of 5. The (evil) spirit starts brutally killing everyone that Pia is close to.

A renowned parapsychologist, Dr. Aditya Motwani (Shreyas Talpade) figures out that Pia’s family is bounded by a curse. With Vic by her side and Aditya all set to help the couple, Pia learns some deep hidden secrets about her family.

As the darkness spreads, things start to get worse and the spirit tries to wipe out everything and everyone that comes in its way. It appears in the form of a ghost who creeps and crawls over the ceiling, creates terror, killing people around while the lead characters stare at it helplessly.

With Dr Aditya on their side, Vic has to discover the dark and terrifying truth behind Pia’s family history of murderous madness and break the curse that is cast on them by another wicked spirit. Vic is racing against time as they have just 36 hours to survive the paranormal situation to save Pia from the spirit who is out to destroy everything.

Bobby Deol had very little to do except to give cold, stony expressions. He has interesting interaction with Shreyas Talpade who as a psychiatrist is perfect in his role. Mudha Godse who gives some bold and steamy scenes, and this time she also tries to portray some expressions.

Help is an ordinary Bollywood movie (scary?) with creepy music, the high pitched Ghostly screams, weird expressions, shaky camera angles, loud voice projection of the characters.

There are few genuinely scary scenes like the one in which the ghost crawls on a ceiling and the one in climax involving mirrors… Help!! The idea about the revenge of the unborn girl child was there in the 2007 Bollywood flick Gauri – The Unborn.
