The music within

Jashnn, movie review

For every nobody who wants to be a somebody. Thats Jashnn for you.

On every street, in every home, somewhere in India, there is a ‘nobody’ who wants desperately to be a ‘somebody’. Jashnn is the story of one such nobody… Jashnn movie review

Akash Verma (Adhyayan Suman), a twenty year old Indian lad, thirsts to become a singing icon that can blaze a trail for himself among the galaxy of existing stars. But though he has dreams in his heart, he has been unable to find that distinctive voice that he can call his own, that will propel him to the top.

Only when he’s shattered by life and unflinchingly looks at the sordid truth straight in the face – that he is freeloading off his elder sister Nisha (Shahana Goswami), who, in order to offer him a decent life style, has become the mistress of a rich businessman Aman Bajaj (Humayun Saeed), is he able to touch his inner core.

Call it irony or a twist of fate, but the person who sees him through this dark night and mentors him when he’s down and out is none other than the sister of the person who he hates most in the world… Aman Bajaj.
It is Sara (Anjana Sukhani), Aman’s sister, who makes him realize that he is an extremely talented man who is simply going through a bad phase and that the biggest crime a human being can commit, is to give up on himself.

Spurrred by life’s bittersweet lessons, and Sara’s genuine love and support, Akash, in the harshest winter of his life discovers an invincible summer within himself…thereby discovering his own voice.

With this very special tune, which has been soaked with the passion of his lived life, he not only touches his inexhaustible potential and becomes an overnight star but also bring dignity to his beleagured sister, huimbles his biggest detractor Aman Bajaj and in the process, lives up to the faith that Sara had in him all along.

Like it happens in life, Akash Verma’s biggest support comes just at the moment when he has almost given up. The person in his life or lets say destiny, gives him the strength to face reality and believe in himself.

Jashnn has super music coupled with brilliant performances from Adhyayay, Sahaha and even Anjana and Humayun. Many delicate moments are strikingly presented like the tiff between Adhyayan and Humayun, when the latter abuses his sister Shahana. Then the subsequent scene, when Adhyayan apologises to Humayun at his office, which is very touching.

Another insightful sequence in Jashnn is when Adhyayan having faced failure, when his demo is rejected by the music company it is his outburst at this point. It shatters your heart!

Jashnn is based on the character Akash Verma, ideally like one of the thousands of aspirant singers in India who want to make it big in the music world. It mirrors the dreams of millions of hopefuls who want to achieve success in life. There are many who want to live their dreams, want to become a somebody some day.

Director duo Raksha Mistry and Hasnain Hyderabadwala have come up with a brilliant flick which has melodious songs and soulful music, powerful dialogues and excellent camerawork.
