It has been a long while that we have a film on the
Indian farmer’s life. Predominantly, Agriculture is the
predominant occupation in India, accounting for about
52% of employment in our country. Kissan reminds one of
the films made around the village life in India (like
Manoj Kumar’s Upkaar). It is a different film, and we
don't have movies like this any more.
Kisaan is centered on the incidents of farmers' suicides
in the interiors of India. It is the story of a farmer’s
family in Palheri district of Chandigarh.

In the mean time, the
farmer’s elder son Aman (played by Arbaaz Khan) returns
home. Having acquired a degree in law, Aman now joins
hands with his father and the younger brother. Aman
realizes the intent of the industrialist, therefore
advises the locales against surrendering their
agriculture land to the rich businessman.
Things get out of hand, and during one incident, the
grown up young brother Jigar (played by Sohail Khan)
gets arrested for assault. The lawyer brother fights his
case, yet is unable to prevent the younger brother being
sentenced to five years in prison.
Things change in the meantime.

Widower farmer, Dayal Singh
(Jackie Shroff) observes the exploitation of farmers at
the hands of Zamindars. He has two sons and decides to
send the elder son, Aman (Dwij Yadav), to the city to
study. Dayal Singh wants his son to be highly educated
and it is his desire that he becomes a lawyer.
The younger son Jigar, would assist his father in
farming and would be living in the village. It seems
fine till now.
Some years gone by and their district is visited by an
industrialist Sohan Seth (Dalip Tahil), who eyes to buy
the farm land and turn the area into a commercial zone.

After his discharge, Jiggar
returns home to find his father bed-ridden, half of his
body paralyzed, a number of farmers have committed
suicide, while Aman, who has married his
sweetheart-fellow lawyer, Priya (Diya Mirza), lives in
the city, works for Sohan, and has been putting pressure
on Dayal as well as other farmers to sell their
respective farmlands.
Sohail Khan plays a brilliant role and so does Arbaaz
Khan. Dia Mirza is fine with her goody appearance with
her beauty and Nauheed Cyrusi looks very sweet and
simple.
This film has a strong message about the issues plaguing
the rural areas of India.
It is nice to have a film thankfully which is not the
usual nonsense comedy produced by Sohail Khan.
