Kismat Konnection, movie review

In college Raj Malhotra (Shahid Kapur) was at the top. In academics, sports, dramatics and touted as the next cover of Time magazine. He is wondering why a brilliant architect like him is grasping at straws to keep afloat. He has got some negative kismat following him around because whenever something good is about to happen, it seems he is doomed to fail. He is on the verge of losing confidence in him, on his luck. Kismat Konnection movie review…

Hiten Patel (Vishal Malhotra) is Raj’s best friend and. He is impulsive and eager to rush into situations, without thinking things through. But he is also loyal and will stand by Raj through the worst of problems and impending bankruptcy.

Desperate to fight this cursed kismat that’s hell bent on playing such mean tricks on him, Raj meets a quirky oracle, Hasina Banu Jaan (Juhi Chawla) who is a Clairvoyant, fortune teller. She has got zany ways of talking and dresssing which confuses whoever goes to her. But her uncanny intuitive powers hold sway. She is enigmatic and unpredictable, talking in riddles and demand ten dollars from her loyal but confused followers. She gives confidence to Raj that the path to success and realization is reached by overcoming one’s own self doubts and by listening more trustingly to one’s own feelings and intuitions.

She tells him that soon his stars will change his stars and make everything work in his favour; but for all this to happen, Raj has first to find his lucky charm and never let go of it.

But she tells him no more, leaving Raj mystified, trying to figure out what this charm could be. Suddenly his life seems to be on the right track. He’s managed to impress top builder Sanjeev Gill (Om Puri), into giving him a prestigious project.

All of a sudden lady luck smiles on Raj and he has to make some important choices – between material gain or staying true to himself and most importantly – his love.

Priya (Vidya Balan) is a good samaritan, a crusading activist. Her concern has always been for the happiness of others, and she has rarely thought of what she wants for herself. Love and romance is the last thing in her mind. But it is coming her way and she has to be prepared for betrayal. However she is a strong girl and possesses innate strength of making the decision of what is right for her.

Raj even succeeds in persuading pretty Priya that he’s the Messiah who can save her beloved Community Center from destruction. He also opened her eyes to her philandering fiancé (Amit Verma). Raj even manages to thwart the evil designs of old-college-foe-turned-deadly-professional- enemy Dave Kataria (Manoj Bohra).

It seems now that Raj has unwittingly discovered his lucky charm. Lady luck finally decided to smile on him. Where will his new found kismet ultimately lead Raj? To the height of love or pinnacle of success? Only Kismat Konnection can tell…

There is fine chemistry between Shahid Kapoor and the gorgeous Vidya Balan in Kismat Konnection. This pair is instrumental in making Kismat Konnection such a beautiful movie. It is slow in the second half and specifically the track regarding sermons on ‘global warming’. Except for its slow pace in the second half, it is a beautiful film.
