Manorama Six Feet Under

In the desert, nothing is what it seems
Genre: Thriller/Suspense  Recommended: Parental Guidance   Released: 21 September 2007

Director: Navdeep Singh
Starring: Abhay Deol, Gul Panag, Raima Sen, Vinay Pathak

The film is about an amateur detective in a small town who finds himself caught in a web of lies, deceit and murder.

Satyaveer Singh played by Abhay Deol, fondly called SV, is a qualified engineer nurturing the ambition of writing detective fiction. He does it, however sadly, his maiden attempt, a novel called "Manorama", flops and he is reduced to writing for a cheap pulp magazine. His novel sold just 200 copies. He is left wondering wonders what to do further, especially having his sarcastic wife (Gul Panag) around in his life. Others with him in the film are Raima Sen and Sarika.

Frustrated by the failure of his dream attempt, he has no choice but to take up work in s small town in Rajasthan. But things take an interesting turn in his life when the wife of a powerful local politician arrives at his doorstep with an irresistible offer for him to play a real life detective. All he has to do is to mark and spy on her husband.

is what it seems to be and that redemption doesn't come easy….

Though the director is new, the plot is intriguing and interesting. This neatly shot film is balanced throughout in its slow and steady pace and begins to tighten the grip in the second half, especially towards the end. Manorama Six Feet Under is a powerful tight thriller.

Abhay Deol's performance is straightforward and extremely realistic. He has matured now into an intelligent actor and knows how to work the understated character perfectly.
