Dehraadun Diary – movie review

Ab toh System ki bhi bajegi!

Once again, here is an attempt to show that there do exist heroes in this era of large scale corruption and manipulation in the class having political connections that is what is Dehraadun Diary about.

The common man is depicted getting entangled in the web ò corridors of power and the corrupt system.

This one is yet again a story of ordinary people who put up an extraordinary fight. People who stand up for your rights. It is a story about the face off between super-rich and powerful versus the common man.

Preeti (Ragini Nandwani), a free spirited daughter of Sadgun Thakur, is in love with Anshul Sharma (Rohit Bakshi), son of an IAS officer. Their match isn’t acceptable to Preeti’s family and this is where the story begins.

Preeti’s father Sadgun Thakur is politically connected, while Anshul’s is a straight forward middle class family. So it is understood that her hi-fi family strongly disapproves their courtship, and arrange to murder Preeti’s boyfriend.

Vishesh (Vishal Bhonsle), Preeti’s strong-headed brother, is outraged on spotting the two at a wedding, and all hell breaks loose.

Anshul’s parents, Mr and Mrs.Sharma who had accepted Preeti, but they are now confronted by the corrupt system. They can’t match steps with Thakur’s political powers and ways to shield his son.

However, encouraged and supported by Anshul’s younger brother Akash, the old couple makes a resolve- to fight, fight till they get justice.

The victim’s brother Akash (Adhyayan Suman), who could have focused on his career, his future, yet decides to give it all up. He is ready to forego his future to fight for justice which could even last for over 8 years!

The usually expected incidents occur. Especially when you are battling it out in the courts against a powerful family.

Witnesses turn hostile, they disappear and re-appear like ghosts; then there are murderers who move around scot-free, and manipulation all around with political contacts.

It’s also the journey of a soul mate who loses herself after the loss so much so that she takes any path she is guided to. Even turns supportive of her own brother when faced with legality but at the end the unadulterated power of love brings her to the threshold and she stands for the right.

Dehraadun Diary is a much needed film about the strength in the common man, the fury that loss lends you and fearlessness that come only with unconditional love.

Adhyayan Suman is okay, Ragini is a shade better in her performance. Rati Agnihotri as the victims mother is superb. Ashwini Kalsekar as the firebrand advocate is ever more impressive, as they plot on how to bring te villainous Vishal Bhonsle to books.
