Mukhbiir, movie review

In our world today where good and evil are deeply enmeshed… where terrorism and fear stalks through our streets, where peace and sanity can get ripped off in an instant… revealing the hidden face of death and devastation – there live a chosen few on the razors edge. Mukhbiir movie review…

Mukhbiir is a thriller directed by the Mani Shankar which revolves around the life and events surrounding an Indian spy. Sameer Dattani plays the spy, while Om Puri, Sunil Shetty, Sushant Singh, Rahul Dev, Jackie Shroff and Raima Sen play the supporting roles
This story is about one such young man who is an informer for the intelligence department and the many masks he wears – enacting a desperate drama where forgetting the lines means instant death. This is the story of the many lives he has to live… the many deaths he has to die… because information is vital.
It’s a gripping film about a rare few men who choose to become hunted shadows so that others like us may live in peace and enjoy the sunshine. It is a film where the espionage meets the underworld – the world that is all around us, yet beyond our grasp. Ever present, yet never seen. True and credible in every detail…

The story of the informer has never been told before. That is because informers live in the world of shadows, leading secret lives. After years of research to understand the hidden trugh about them, here is one film which takes you into their world, their life and probably their minds…

An orphaned lad Mukhbir (Sammir Dattani) is mentored by intelligence officer Om Puri. The informer is used by the state intelligence agencies and the cops to infiltrate dreaded gangs and help bust them.

In a big assignment he infiltrates the gang of an Islamic terrorist, played by Rahul Dev, by converting to Islam. The setting is before the Mumbai bomb blasts of 1993. The Authorities want him to help prevent the blasts.
Here is the life of a ‘Mukhbir’ – the world’s most dangerous profession!

Sammir Dattani has put in his soul in an excellence performance. Om Puri is natural in his character. Rahul Dev is good while special mention has to be made of Sushant Singh who is impressive as a Terrorist. Suniel Shetty, Raima Sen and Jackie Shroff hardly have anything to do in the movie.

There are just few songs, no irrelevant comedy in this well made film Mukhbiir, which has good performances. The risks, losses and sacrifices the central character has to go thru are beautifully narrated in this slick film.
