Rocket Singh – movie review

Salesman of the year

Rocket Singh, movie review

Rocket Singh is not a funny film as it appeared in its promos. It projects the idealistic view of what entrepreneurship means in today’s India breaking out from corruption and bribery prevalent in those times. It has a rock solid script, splendid direction and the amazing Ranbir Singh. It is an honest film.

“Rocket Singh – Salesman of the Year” is the sometimes thoughtless, sometimes thoughtful story of a fresh graduate trying to find a balance between the maddening demands of the ‘professional’ way, and the way of his heart – and stumbling upon a crazy way which turned his world upside down, and his career right side up.

Right from the beginning, this film is typically reflective of a salesman’s life. And one is easily connected with the situations and the typical workplace jokes at a marketing outfit.

Harpreet Singh Bedi (Ranbir Kapoor) has just barely graduated and his just passed results never stopped him from dreaming of an exciting and adventurous career, and they never will. He wants to make a career in sales. He is fresh, raw and naive, and has to learn the tricks of the trade soon what with his demanding bosses & non co-operative peers around.

He takes a deep, positive breath and dives into the world of sales, rumoured to be an ultra cool career for all smart people blocked from entering medical, engineering or business schools by brainless entrance exams. It’s everything he dreamt of, with its smooth dressing, smoother talking men and women who can sell ice to an Eskimo, dreams to an insomniac, and a lifetime mobile connection to a dying man. But soon, his idea of success begins clashing with the strange ways of these ‘professionals’ he looked up to.

Welcome to the world of sales boss! Rocket Singh – Salesman of the year.

Ranbir Kapoor & Prem Chopra as his grandfather have very good chemistry & some of their scenes are so real & touchy. However, it is the well developed characters of the office peon and the receptionist who take the movie forward

It is a film which engages you with a tight script and no silly song & dance routines. The screenplay is good, direction is good, and the actors are very good. Rocket Singh ends naturally with a social message thrown in.

Rocket Singh – Salesman of the year – is an unexpected surprise of the year. A pleasant surprise!
