Singham is a
hard core action film, an action film like no other with
a universal appeal and has something to take home for
everyone. It is a remake of the 2010 Tamil film Singam
featuring Suriya and Anushka Shetty and directed by Hari.
In recent times even as action movies have gained
immense popularity amongst cine goers there is a void
for earthy action films with elements of heroism,
idolism, machismo and valor.
Everything seems to be smooth-running until the city
based extortionist Jaikant Shikre (Prakash Raj), is
required to travel personally to Shivgad to sign a
conditional bail for the next two weeks. On the first
day, Jaikant sends one of his henchmen to sign in his
place.
An angry Bajirao Singham demands that Jaikant come in
person for the signature and thus Jaikant is humiliated.
Destiny sets up the honest and diligent police inspector
against the tremendously powerful criminal cum
politician Jaykant Shikre. Jaykant's manipulations
ensure that Singham is promoted and transferred to Goa.
Little does Singham know that while this move will bring
him closer to Kavya, it will also deliver him into the
clutches of Jaykant. Because Goa is the place where
Jaykant rules supreme. And Jaykant has vowed to make
Singham's life a living nightmare.
Alone in enemy territory, Singham must now rise to his
toughest challenge - hold on to his principles and
destroy the all powerful enemy.
Singham has high-voltage stunts where the director fully
exploits the concept of the cinematic liberties which is
prevalent even in Hollywood. It is a powerful
action-emotional drama with powerful dialogues and
absolutely power-packed performances. It is a fight
against corruption and there is liberal use of Marathi
in dialogues.

Among the things
which work in favour of this film doesn’t have any item
numbers like what is in vogue in every other Bollywood
film. Exciting are the scenes where Bajirao Singham
confronts the villain Jaikant Shirke every time.
Singham is a loud melodramatic
film about an upright cop who is cornered by a
power-crazed criminal who runs unlawful businesses like
kidnapping, ransom in the guise of being a respectable
citizen.
The story begins in a Goa city Police Station with an
honest young policeman shoots himself in the head out of
sheer frustration when he is falsely hauled up for
corruption. This cop was wrongly framed by the local don
Jaikant Shikre (Prakash Raj).
In Shivgad, a small village on the border of Maharashtra
and Goa, Inspector Bajirao Singham (Ajay Devgn) fights
against injustice, prejudice and corruption using his own
brand of ethics and justice. Inspector Singham settles
every dispute in his town with his words of wisdom, even
financially aids the defaulter and resorts to force only
when the situation demands it.
When Kavya (Kaajal Aggarwal) comes from Goa to visit her
grandparents, she is charmed by Bajirao's bold and
courageous demeanor.

Ajay Devgn fits into his role of an upright cop. Kajal
Agarwal is fine enough. Prakash Raj has something in him
which livens up the screen when the good guy meets the bad
guy. Ajay is convincing and underplays at times while gets
the dialogues which fetches him whistles from the crowds.
After a long time such frenzy was witnessed in the cinema
halls.
Singham is full of unrealistic action, but it is depicted
in such a way, that momentarily it appears convincing.
This is the only drawback apart from the romantic songs
which seemed unwanted in this action thriller. There are
several high moments during the scenes where Singham's
path crosses that of the handsome gang-lord. It is full
entertainment – Bollywood style.
