Sorry Bhai deals with a very delicate topic, handled
with innocence by the director Onir. It deals with a
girl falling for her fiancé’s brother and manages to
show the predicaments of the characters very
realistically... without making them black or white…
The elder brother Harsh (Sanjay Suri) is the modern day
ambitious man who wants to be successful in life and
have a life full of luxury for himself and his wife – to
- be without realizing that there is a price to be paid
for everything. He is the kind of man who gives his work
priority over his relationships, someone who likes to
push things under the carpet, and often runs away from
reality.

Harsh, pre - occupied with work, can spend little time
with his family and it is left to his fiancée Aaliyah to
show them around Mauritius before the wedding. However,
the mother’s anger at Harsh ensures that she takes an
instant dislike to Aaliyah, and it is Aaliyah and
Siddharth who end up spending loads of time together.
This, added to the fact that Aaliyah feels, justifiably,
neglected by the career-obsessed Harsh, added to the
fact that Siddharth and Aaliyah have a common interest -
studies, leads to them being irresistibly drawn to each
other. Siddharth is horrified. Aaliyah, confused. They
try their best to douse these feelings. But they keep
coming back with renewed vigor. Soon, all hell breaks
loose in the Mathur family…
Sid, the scientist and the younger brother is the
perfect specimen of the studious scientist. Hard -
working, earnest, honest, bright and all kinds of other
boring qualities abound in him. But he also has an
interesting artistic streak: he’s a big jazz freak and
an adept saxophone player.

Harsh has always been the simpler, uncomplicated
brother. Going to Mauritius on a scholarship made him
even more ambitious and motivated to succeed. He is
getting married to Aaliyah, (Chitrangda Singh) the bride
to be who is a product of divorced parents and she has
grown up in Mauritius, in a boarding school. Her parents
are both married and with kids now and even though they
support her financially and speak to her occasionally,
she can’t say that they’re really in touch with her on a
regular basis.
Aaliyah was actually taken quite by surprise by Harsh’s
extreme ambition. She knew he wanted to do well, but she
had no clue that love would take such a back - seat in his
life. Harsh does feel guilty at the way he has treated his
family and Aaliyah, but not enough to give up what gives
him the most satisfaction – success.
Sharman Joshi as Siddharth Mathur (Sid), a shy young
scientist, travels to Mauritius for his elder brother
Harshvardhan’s (Harsh) wedding. Accompanying him is his
mother (Shabana Azmi), a reluctant traveler since she is
angry at Harsh for deciding to get married without
consulting them. Also travelling is Siddharth’s cheery
father (Boman Irani), whose sole entertainment is pulling
his wife’s leg.

Siddharth is resigned to getting into an arranged marriage
to a girl selected by his mother, even though that doesn’t
stop fantasies of love from plaguing him. And he’s
thrilled to bits when he realizes that Aaliyah has fallen
head over heels in love with him. His morality, however,
goes through serious conflict.
The film has an exciting script, which is essentially
about delicate relationships. Yet each character is
presented with love which makes their actions acceptable.
It's beautifully real!
